Evenley Loop

Difficulty: Average
Distance: 6 miles / 9.7 km

This walk starts at the Leisure Centre and then walks along the western edge of town, before passing around St James’ lake and onto Evenley, heading back via the High Street. The walk offers some great views of the south of Brackley from Evenley Park.

Directions

  • Starting at the Leisure Centre, walk down Springfield Way and turn right onto Candleford Court.
  • Take the footpath at the end of the street on your right across the playing fields and follow it to Humphries Drive.
  • Turn left on Humphries Drive, then right and take the footpath in the green space between the houses.
  • At the end of the green space, turn left and follow the path downhill. This will take you towards the Banbury Road and will turn left at the bottom of the hill and follow the old disused railway line towards the zip wire park.
  • Cross the Banbury Road and then turn left into the Pocket Park. You can either follow the Pocket Park until the end on Hinton Road, or take the steps after you go under the bridge and follow the path around St James’ lake.
  • At the junction of Hinton Road and Bridge Street, turn right and head towards the Mercedes F1 garage.
  • Ensure you are on the side of the road with the Mercedes F1 garage as this has the crossing point over the A43. Use the crossing to pass over the A43, then walk along the A43 heading towards Evenley for a short distance.
  • Turn left, taking the public footpath through the gate and into Evenley Park. The footpath heads diagonally uphill.
  • Head through the gate and cross over the small road and then through another gate and back onto the footpath through the field.
  • Continue straight at the end of the field and through another gate. The footpath heads between the gardens and emerges onto Church Lane.
  • You can either turn left, or head straight and then walk around the village green. Either way, you are heading for the lane in the adjacent corner from where you emerged.
  • Follow the lane and then take the footpath along the edge of the field, turning right when the two footpaths cross.
  • Follow the footpath through two fields, before emerging into the field where you were earlier. Turn right and follow the path downhill across Evenley Park.
  • Cross back over the A43 using the crossing points and then follow Bridge Street up hill and then along the High Street until you reach Halse Road.
  • Turn left onto Halse Road and follow it to the right at the mini roundabout.
  • Turn left opposite the care home and follow the alleyway onto Daniaud Court. Cross over the road on Martial Daire Boulevard, taking the alleyway that heads between Avenue Bernard and Bayard Brow.
  • Once you reach Pavillons Way, turn left and head downhill, then turn right onto Springfield Way and head back to the Leisure Centre.
