A nice walk into the nearby countryside, heading towards Halse past Hill Farm, towards Steane, and then looping back to Brackley.
Directions
- Starting at the Leisure Centre, with the entrance in front of you, turn right and take the path around the building, then follow across the field. Turn left and head through the park towards Humphries Drive
- Carefully cross Humphries Drive and take the footpath ahead that heads West out of Brackley
- Follow the footpath until you get to some horse paddocks, then follow the footpath to the right, heading North. The path will head up hill and then bear over to the left of the field and through a gateway.
- Follow the footpath around the trees, bearing to your right, then at the end of the trees, turn left and head towards Hill Farm
- Follow the track ahead around the outside of Hill Farm and towards the cottages. Just before the cottages, take the bridleway to your left and follow it immediately right. This will take you towards a gate with the footpath in the field on the other side.
- The footpath crosses the field diagonally to the right, where you cross over a stile into the next field, then turn left heading downhill to another stile, then downhill again to the gate, crossing over a footbridge.
- Cross over the field, heading back up hill, crossing another stile and into a small field, before crossing another stile onto a farm track.
- Turn right on the farm track and towards Halse Road. At Halse Road, turn left and head up hill. At the top of the hill, turn left, taking the footpath past the cottages and following it to the right. There was a helpful sign at the end of the driveway pointing the way.
- The footpath emerges onto a track. There are some great views here across to your left. The track turns into a bridleway as it heads downhill, with the solar farm on your right.
- Continue straight across the disused railway line, following the signed route for the bridleway around the edge of the field.
- Turn left before Abbey Farm Lodge and cross the fields, before heading back up hill and towards Steane.
- At the track, turn left and head along the bridleway. Take care crossing the ford. There were some stones on the right of the ford if you choose to use them to cross.
- Head back up hill and follow the track to the right. The track heads off to the left around the edge of the field, but you need to turn right into the next field and then immediately left, heading downhill slightly, before turning right along the edges of the trees.
- The footpath turns left and heads across a field, before heading uphill where you cross a stile, then head back downhill and across a small footbridge over a stream.
- The footpath heads back uphill towards Brackley and past the horse paddocks once more.
- Continue straight along the footpath and cross Humphries Drive, heading along the tarmac footpath in the small park
- Turn right and head back to the Leisure Centre where you started
